Here are some frequently asked questions we get at Healix Wound Care:

At Healix, our Advanced Practice Providers specialize in treating a wide range of wounds, both acute and chronic. We handle conditions such as pressure injuries (also called decubitus ulcers or bedsores), incontinence-associated dermatitis, deep tissue injuries, moisture-associated skin damage, vascular ulcers, stasis dermatitis, cellulitis, edema (or swelling), diabetic foot ulcers, boils/abscesses, surgical wounds, skin tears, fungal rashes, burns, radiation & malignant wounds, lesions, and traumatic wounds.

Our Advanced Practice Providers offer consultations and treatments in various settings, including our Healix Wound Center, rehabilitation or long-term care facilities, Assisted Living and Independent Living communities, and patients’ homes. Additionally, our founder, Dr. Seana Rutherford, has hospital privileges at the Cleveland Clinic’s Fairview Hospital. We serve patients in Northeast Ohio and beyond – and are growing every day with expanded geographic coverage! For more information on geographical availability, please email [email protected].

During your initial visit, we aim to understand the underlying reasons behind your wound and why it might not be healing. We will:

  • Discuss your personal and family medical history.
  • Conduct a thorough examination of you and your wound.
  • Talk about your healing goals.
  • Consider any additional procedures that might speed up your healing process.
  • Review advanced treatment options.
  • Create a personalized care plan for you.
  • Educate you on home wound care.
  • Coordinate with your skilled Home Health Care or Hospice agency for dressing changes and order necessary supplies.

Our Advanced Practice Providers and care teams use the Cleveland Clinic’s MyChart system for documentation. Patients can use MyChart to view their appointments, ask questions, request medication refills, and view test results. Other healthcare providers (such as your Primary Care Provider) can also access our documentation through MyChart.

Healix is accredited with most major insurance providers, including Aetna, Aetna Better Health Ohio, Amerihealth, Anthem Medicaid, Anthem Commercial, Anthem Medicare, Buckeye, Caresource, Cigna, Humana, Medical Mutual, Medicare, Medicaid, Molina, Paramount, Summacare, and United Healthcare commercial plans. For additional questions about accepted insurance plans, please contact our office at [email protected].

No referral is necessary to schedule an appointment with us. However, we recommend checking with your insurance company, as some may require a referral for the services to be covered under your plan.

The frequency of visits depends on your personalized care plan, which may include regular check-ups. Appointments can be scheduled at our Healix Wound Center, or our providers can visit you at home or in a rehabilitation setting. During each visit, we will:

  • Change your wound dressing.
  • Review any test results.
  • Update and discuss your care plan.
  • Outline the next steps in your treatment.
  • Answer any questions you have about your wound or treatment.
  • Send prescriptions to your pharmacy if needed.
